DAWN OF AZAZEL Frontman Comments On Passing Of DISGORGE Bassist
January 3, 2008Frontman Rigel Walshe of the New Zealand-based death/grind outfit DAWN OF AZAZEL has released the following statement on the passing of DISGORGE bassist Ben Marlin:
"I was truly saddened to hear the news of Ben Marlin's passing earlier today. We had the pleasure of touring through New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia together with DISGORGE for three weeks back in March 06.
"From the moment I hopped in the van with Ben at Auckland Airport for the first show of our tour together, I was struck by his laid back, easy-going nature, humility and sly sense of humor, no matter what dramas would cross his path. The admiration stuck with me throughout the tour and beyond. I was even more impressed by the guy when I heard that all this was in spite of having endured some major personal dramas just before heading out on tour.
"I spoke with Ed from DISGORGE earlier today and he relayed to me that Ben passed away in peace and amongst friends and family. He introduced them to the DISGORGE Myspace page, and at the moment while they come to terms with his passing, they are finding some consolation in how respected and loved he and his music was, from the kind words and condolences of friends and fans.
"If you've ever been graced with Ben's company or enjoyed the music he made I encourage you to take a few moments to do the same.
"From all in DAWN OF AZAZEL, R.I.P., brother, you will be missed!"
Ben Marlin passed away on January 2, 2008 after nearly a year and a half of battling cancer.
DISGORGE released its fourth album, "Paralells of Infinite Torture", in May 2005 via Crash Music Inc. The band had previously released two albums through the Unique Leader label (1999's "She Lay Gutted" and 2001's "Consume the Forsaken") and a collection of demos through Extremities Productions (1999's "Cranial Impalement").
